Respected Friends,
Hundreds of members and artists from Karnataka’s Nomadic communities today staged a powerful and
emotional protest at Jantar Mantar, Delhi. This protest was to denounce the grave injustice in the internal
reservation allocation and to demand intervention from the Congress High Command to correct this
historical wrong.
Artists dressed as Ram, Lakshman, Ravan, Durga, and Hanuman expressed the community’s pain through
their performances. Some even chained themselves as a symbol of how their suffering lashes out at society
as a whole. From 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM, the protest continued at Jantar Mantar, after which the protestors
marched towards the Congress office to seek an audience with party leaders.
Due to strict security arrangements, Delhi Police did not allow a street march but instead arranged buses
to take the delegation. In front of the Congress office, the community’s anguish was visible. Although
AICC leaders instructed to let everyone in, the police only permitted a delegation to enter citing security
concerns.
Inside, AICC General Secretary Abhishek Dutt engaged in a long discussion with the delegation, listening
patiently. He said:
“I regret that you had to travel such a long distance from Karnataka with such difficulties. Today, our
National President Mallikarjun Kharge is in the hospital, Rahul Gandhi is abroad, and due to Durga Puja,
many senior leaders are in their constituencies. Hence, it is difficult for us to give a concrete decision
immediately. But we stand with you, and we will certainly work towards a solution. We only request a
little time to decide the process. Once Rahul Gandhi returns, we will arrange a direct meeting with him.”When asked for a specific date, he explained that it required consultation with senior leaders, but assured
that a resolution process would begin. The delegation thanked him, submitted a memorandum, and left
the Congress office.
Later, at Ambedkar Bhavan, a large meeting of nomadic leaders and members was held. The following
resolutions were made:
7. For the first time in history, the 59 nomadic communities of Karnataka have risen as one family.
We came all the way to Delhi and made our voice heard loud and clear. This unity and struggle
for justice will continue until the end.
8. The Confederation expresses gratitude to Mr. Abhishek Dutt for welcoming the delegation and
engaging in a detailed discussion.
9. Although the Congress representative spoke positively, he sought time to finalize the next steps.
We understand this, but until a concrete decision is given, we will not leave Delhi. We will wait,
no matter how long, but we will only return after securing justice.
10. If we lose this opportunity, we may never get justice again. Therefore, we appeal to our nomadic
brothers and sisters in Karnataka to continuously send teams to Delhi to strengthen our presence
here.
11. We extend heartfelt thanks to the kind-hearted people of Delhi who are helping us with shelter,
water, and food during our stay here.
12. During the demonstration in front of the Congress office, a few BJP miscreants attempted to
disrupt the struggle by raising unacceptable slogans to portray it as a BJP vs. Congress fight. The
Confederation strongly condemns this and firmly resolves to keep such selfish elements away
from our struggle.
