आज, कर्नाटक जीता है। चनरायपत्न और 13 गांवों के लोग पिछले 1198 दिनों से संघर्ष में हैं, यह कहते हुए कि वे अपने पूर्वजों की भूमि को नहीं बेचेंगे। यह दुर्भाग्यपूर्ण है कि अधिकारियों ने इन किसानों की याचिका को नहीं समझा। वे मजबूर भूमि अधिग्रहण के साथ आगे बढ़े और एक अंतिम अधिसूचना जारी की। इस समय, सम्युक्ता होराता कर्नाटक ने इस अन्याय को किसानों के साथ होने की अनुमति नहीं देने का फैसला किया और 25 जून को “देवनहल्ली शैलो” का आह्वान किया।

Today, Karnataka has won. The people of Channarayapatna and 13 villages have been in the struggle for the past 1198 days, saying that they would not sell the land of their ancestors. It is unfortunate that the authorities did not understand the plea of these farmers. They proceeded with forced land acquisition and issued a final notification. At this moment, Samyukta Horata Karnataka decided not to allow this injustice to happen to the farmers and called for a “Devanahalli Chalo” on June 25.

The response from Karnataka to this call was extraordinary. The civil society of Karnataka, led by Prakash Raj, rallied together. The authorities still did not understand the pulse of this land. An attempt was made to suppress the movement by forcibly arresting the activists. But the leadership of all people’s organizations in Karnataka faced this bravely and unitedly. They continued the “Bhoomi Satyagraha” at Freedom Park.

The Chief Minister scheduled a meeting on July 4. On that day, unprecedented support was expressed from various states, including the national leadership of Samyukta Kisan Morcha. The working people of Karnataka, especially the poor Bagar Hukum farmers and those who had lost their land rights, participated in large numbers and transformed the “Naadu Ulisi Samavesha” into the voice of Karnataka. A meeting was held in the presence of the Chief Minister.
However, he asked the activists to ‘give the government 10 more days’. This time was given to the government with the understanding that they should ensure that the farmers are not let down.

During these 10 days, many conspiracies to divide the farmers were carried out by some local goons and real estate agents. But under the leadership of the Anti-Land Acquisition Struggle Committee, the people of Channarayapatna and 13 villages foiled this conspiracy. They held Grama Sankalpa Samaveshas in every village, and finally, on July 14, they held a “Grama Sankalpa Samavesha” and once again proved their united decision: “Even if we lose our lives, we will not give up our land.”

Today, July 15, the meeting that not only all of Karnataka but also India was waiting for took place in Vidhana Soudha. The Chief Minister Mr.Siddaramaiah, coming straight to the point, announced the decision to completely drop the entire notification, “honoring the farmers’ resolve not to give up agriculture and the historic way in which all people’s organizations and citizens of Karnataka united and raised their voices.” *We thank the government, especially the Chief Minister Mr.Siddaramiah and the Congress high command, especially Mr.Rahul Gandhi for responding to the public sentiment and for taking this clear decision*.

This is a collective victory for the united struggle of people’s movements. We will continue this unity. We are working as the voice of the people’s pain. We are once again resolving at this historic moment that we will work as the voice of the people questioning those in power. We are also taking the decision to initiate a public discussion around the invaluable questions of “What should be the development model of Karnataka?” and “What should be the land use policy?”.
